Two young women from Nepal were found hanging from a tree in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka area, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Sirijana (24), daughter of Johare, and Rita (24), daughter of Kamal Singh. Both were natives of Nepal and had reportedly arrived in Bengaluru around a month ago.
According to preliminary police findings, the women had been staying at the residence of Sirijana’s brother in Yelahanka after coming to the city from Nepal.
The incident came to light early on Wednesday morning when the two women were discovered hanging from a tree opposite Kisar Hotel in Shivanahalli on Jakkur Road, within the jurisdiction of the Yelahanka Police Station.
Police teams rushed to the spot and carried out an initial inspection. While the deaths are suspected to be a case of suicide, investigators said the exact reason behind the incident has not yet been established.
A case has been registered, and police are examining all possible angles to determine the sequence of events that led to the deaths. Further investigation is underway.
The incident comes weeks after another tragic case in Bengaluru in which four members of a family were found dead in Kottigepalya on July 11. Police had then suspected a triple murder-suicide, alleging that a 34-year-old man fatally attacked three family members before taking his own life. Preliminary investigations had suggested that he may have been suffering from mental health issues.
