A B.Tech student allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death following an argument in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district on Friday, police said.
The incident took place near Chintapalli in Karampudi mandal, where the accused, identified as Bala Saidulu, had allegedly called the victim to discuss issues related to their relationship.
Both the accused and the victim were engineering students at a private college in Guntur and were reportedly in a relationship for some time.
According to preliminary police findings, an argument broke out between the two after they met on Friday morning. During the altercation, Saidulu allegedly attacked the young woman with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Investigators suspect that the accused had become upset as he believed the victim had been avoiding him for some time.
Police said Bala Saidulu is a native of a village in Karampudi mandal, while the victim hailed from Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district.
Further investigation is underway, and police are probing the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to ensure stringent action against those responsible for a separate hit-and-run case involving two medical students in Rajamahendravaram.
The Chief Minister reviewed the incident in which a car allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver rammed into two medicos riding a scooty before fleeing the scene. Officials informed him that the accused had been arrested.
Naidu directed authorities to ensure strict punishment for the accused and sought regular updates on the condition of the injured students, Priyanka and Umesh, while instructing officials to provide them with all necessary medical assistance.
Priyanka, a postgraduate student at GSL Medical College, was declared brain-dead after suffering severe head injuries in the incident, which occurred on Tuesday outside a shopping mall in Rajamahendravaram. She was initially admitted to a local hospital before being shifted to Hyderabad, where doctors declared her brain-dead.
According to officials, the car struck the scooty and then allegedly ran over the young woman before speeding away despite attempts by security personnel and bystanders to stop the driver.
