Actor Piyush Mishra has extended support to students protesting in Ranchi over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations, while expressing disappointment that more members from Mumbai’s entertainment industry have not joined the peaceful movement.
In a video message shared on social media, the Gulaal actor said he felt “embarrassed” that no one from Mumbai had participated in the students’ protest so far, and announced his intention to visit the protest site and stand in solidarity with them.
“My name is Piyush Mishra, and I am an artist. I am speaking from Mumbai. I feel a little embarrassed that no one from Mumbai has been part of your movement,” he said in the video.
Mishra said he wanted to interact with the protesting students and contribute in whatever way possible. He added that he would encourage his colleagues to extend support, including assistance related to medical needs, finances, food and other requirements.
Urging the students to maintain the peaceful nature of their agitation, the actor appealed to them to avoid abusive language, misconduct and political interference.
“Keep the movement exactly like this. There should be no misbehaviour, no abuse, and no political interference. You people are very good, you are the future of the country, and we are with you,” Mishra said.
He also clarified that while he was disappointed with the lack of participation from Mumbai, there were people in the city who supported the students’ cause.
The students have been protesting in Ranchi since July 29, demanding investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged paper leaks and recruitment irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations.
Earlier, actors including Sonakshi Sinha, Raveena Tandon, Imran Khan and Bhumi Pednekar had also expressed support for the protesting students through social media posts.
