Chandigarh, August 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Thursday informed the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that the state government is committed to ensuring that no eligible family is deprived of foodgrains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
Replying to a question in the House, the minister said ration is being provided to eligible beneficiaries under both the Priority Household Scheme and the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, with efforts underway to include all deserving families.
Kataruchak said the online portal for applying for new ration cards will remain open until August 11. Eligible applicants can submit their applications through the eRCMS portal, while those unable to apply online can also submit applications manually at the offices of the concerned District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC).
He added that citizens facing any difficulty in the application process can contact their respective DFSC offices for assistance.
Highlighting measures taken to improve transparency in the Public Distribution System, the minister said Punjab has more than 14,000 ration depots, all of which have been equipped with electronic Point of Sale (e-PoS) machines to ensure transparent and efficient distribution of foodgrains.
He further informed the House that 2,800 additional ration depots have recently been allotted to strengthen the state’s distribution network.
Apart from wheat supplied under the NFSA, the minister said beneficiaries are also receiving ration kits under the Punjab Government’s ‘Meri Rasoi’ initiative.
Each ration kit contains 2 kg of pulses, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder and 1 litre of mustard oil, aimed at providing additional support to eligible households.
Kataruchak reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening food security and ensuring that welfare benefits reach every deserving family across Punjab.
