Hockey India announces Shileima Chanu-led squad for Junior Women’s Asia Cup 2026

Hockey India on Thursday announced the 18-member Indian junior women’s hockey squad for the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Moqi, China, from August 30 to September 13.

Midfielder Khaidem Shileima Chanu has been named captain of the team, which also includes two alternate players. The squad has undergone extensive preparations under newly appointed head coach Tim White, who took charge of the team earlier this year.

As part of their build-up for the continental championship, an extended squad recently completed an exposure tour of the United Kingdom. The tour provided valuable international match experience and helped the players gain crucial insights ahead of the tournament.

The Junior Asia Cup will feature some of the top junior teams from across Asia and serve as an important platform for emerging hockey talent. The tournament schedule and pool details will be announced closer to the start of the competition.

Expressing confidence in the team, coach Tim White praised the players for their dedication and hard work.

“I am proud of the commitment and determination these young players have shown in earning their place in the squad for the Junior Asia Cup. Over the past few months, they have worked tirelessly to improve every aspect of their game, and I have seen them grow both as individuals and as a team,” White said.

He added that the tournament would provide the players with an opportunity to compete against the best teams in Asia and move closer to their long-term goals.
