Karan Deol recalls Sunny Deol’s parenting style: “Just a look from him was enough”

Actor Karan Deol left the audience in splits during the Ahmedabad promotions of his upcoming film Batwara 1947 when he opened up about growing up with his superstar father Sunny Deol.

During the promotional event, Karan, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta were interacting with fans when Preity playfully asked Karan whether he had ever been scolded or beaten by his father as a child.

Responding with humour, Karan said, “Pitai to kabhi nahi hui, bas ishara hi kaafi hota tha” (I was never beaten, but just a look from him was enough).

The witty reply drew laughter from the audience, with Sunny and Preity also enjoying the light-hearted moment.

Meanwhile, Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947.

The period drama explores the emotional impact of Partition through stories of displacement, human suffering and compassion. The film features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.

The trailer, released recently, has generated significant interest ahead of the film’s theatrical release, receiving positive reactions from audiences and critics.

The film also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen with a major project after an eight-year gap. Batwara 1947 reunites Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta after several years. The actors have earlier shared screen space in films such as The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Heroes and Bhaiaji Superhit.

Preity has also shared a close bond with the Deol family off screen and has often been regarded as one of Bobby Deol’s close friends in the film industry. The two actors have worked together in films including Soldier, Hum To Mohabbat Karega, Jurm and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Karan Deol, who made his acting debut with Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, is Sunny Deol’s elder son. Sunny and his wife Pooja Deol also have another son, Rajveer Deol, who entered Bollywood with the 2023 film Dono.
