Thrissur, October 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Thousands of fans who had gathered since morning to catch a glimpse of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay were left disappointed on Friday after bad weather forced him to cancel his much-anticipated visit to Kerala.
Vijay was scheduled to travel from Coimbatore to Thrissur to attend a special Navaratri event at the residence of T.S. Kalyanaraman, chairman of the Kalyan Group. However, heavy rain disrupted his travel plans, forcing the cancellation of his helicopter journey to Thrissur.
Officials of the Kalyan Group confirmed that the visit had been called off. Vijay subsequently returned to Chennai aboard a special aircraft.
The cancellation dashed the hopes of thousands of supporters who had assembled in and around the venue since morning. Many had waited for hours to catch a glimpse of the actor-turned-politician, whose rise to the Chief Minister’s office has generated considerable excitement around his public appearances.
Despite the disappointment, there was some consolation for his supporters. According to officials, Vijay has assured them that he would visit Kalyanaraman’s residence in Thrissur at a later date. However, no fresh date has been announced so far.
The visit had attracted considerable attention as it would have marked Vijay’s first trip to Kerala since he assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. His journey from a hugely popular film star to the head of the state government has made his public appearances a major attraction for supporters.
The Navaratri celebration at Kalyanaraman’s residence was expected to provide an opportunity for Vijay to visit Kerala in a private setting. His proposed arrival had generated considerable anticipation, with fans gathering well before the scheduled time.
Friday’s cancellation means that Vijay’s much-awaited first appearance in Kerala as Chief Minister will have to wait. Although the weather disrupted the programme, his assurance of a return visit has kept supporters hopeful of seeing him in the state soon.
