Punjab Police conducted 593 raids at identified locations linked to associates of gangsters across the state on Saturday as the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign entered its 242nd day, resulting in the arrest of 269 people and the recovery of three weapons.
The police also took preventive action against 233 individuals and arrested six proclaimed offenders (POs) during the statewide operation.
The ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the stated objective of making Punjab a gangster-free state. Police teams from districts across the state have been conducting coordinated operations in collaboration with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
With the latest arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has reached 72,049.
Punjab Police said members of the public can anonymously provide information about wanted criminals and gangsters, as well as report information relating to crime and criminal activities, through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, the police continued their anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 567th day.
During the day’s operations, police arrested 73 alleged drug smugglers and recovered 17.1 kg of heroin, 780 grams of opium, 1,085 intoxicant pills and Rs 1,650 in alleged drug money.
The total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has now reached 78,233 in 567 days.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also said it persuaded nine people to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Saturday.
