Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the heavy security arrangements during her visit to her Wayanad constituency, saying the presence of a large number of security personnel was causing inconvenience to local residents.
Priyanka conveyed her concerns directly to the CRPF personnel accompanying her, questioning the need for such a large security contingent during her constituency visits.
“I do not need this many security personnel. Their presence is causing difficulties for ordinary people,” she told the security personnel.
She also reportedly warned that if such arrangements continued, she would stop providing advance information about her constituency visits.
Priyanka’s objection was directed at the scale of the deployment rather than security arrangements themselves. She stressed that excessive security should not interfere with her interaction with people or restrict access to her during constituency engagements.
The issue came up during her ongoing visit to Wayanad, where she has been meeting residents and reviewing local issues. On Wednesday, she also interacted with MGNREGA workers in Munderi after stopping during a visit in the area.
Wayanad comprises several remote and hilly areas where constituency visits often involve travel through narrow roads and interactions with residents in local settlements. A large security deployment can affect movement and access in such areas.
Priyanka represents Wayanad in the Lok Sabha and has maintained a regular presence in the constituency since her election. Her visits have included meetings with residents, local organisations and party workers, besides discussions on development, rehabilitation and other constituency-related issues.
The CRPF personnel deployed for her protection accompany her during public engagements and constituency visits. Priyanka’s remarks indicate her preference for a security arrangement that allows greater interaction with residents without causing unnecessary disruption.
The episode comes during a wider constituency visit in which she has been reviewing development concerns and meeting people across Wayanad and adjoining areas.
