Prajwal Revanna Sent to Two-Day Police Custody in Jail Mobile Phone Case

Bengaluru, September 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has been remanded to two days of police custody in connection with the alleged possession and use of a mobile phone inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

The Special Court for MPs/MLAs in Bengaluru passed the order on Tuesday after Revanna and co-accused Pratap Rai were produced before the 42nd ACJM court. Police custody of both accused was granted to facilitate further questioning and investigation.

Revanna is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction in a rape case. He is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, son of JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna and nephew of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The case was registered at Parappana Agrahara police station following the reported recovery of an Android mobile phone, a pen drive and a charger from Revanna’s cell at Bengaluru Central Prison.

A purported video later surfaced showing Revanna allegedly speaking on a mobile phone from his VIP cell. The footage also purportedly showed him accessing various facilities inside the prison. Police subsequently registered an FIR and began investigating a possible breach of prison security.

According to investigators, Rai, who was sharing the cell with Revanna, has been named accused number one, while Revanna is accused number two.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the seized phone contained an Andhra Pradesh-registered SIM card. Revanna has reportedly told investigators that the phone belonged to Rai, who was staying in the same cell.

Police are also examining a notebook recovered from the cell that allegedly contained contact numbers of Revanna’s family members and relatives. Investigators have indicated that calls were allegedly made to some of those relatives using the seized phone.

During the two-day custody, police are expected to question both accused about how the SIM card was obtained, who brought the mobile phone into the prison and how the phone and other materials reached their cell.

Investigators are also probing whether anyone inside or outside the prison helped provide the phone or SIM card and whether the incident points to a wider breach of prison security protocols.
