The Punjab Women’s Commission will organise the ‘She Runs-2026’ marathon in Maur on September 9, with women from different age groups expected to participate in the state’s first exclusive women’s marathon aimed at promoting health, quality of life and women’s empowerment.
Punjab Women’s Commission Chairperson Raj Lalli Gill announced the event while addressing media persons. Punjab Medium Industry Development Board Chairman Neel Garg was also present.
Gill said the marathon reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to improving the status of women and ensuring their equal participation and standing in society.
The 2.5-km marathon will be held at the grain market in Maur, she said, adding that women from all age groups would take part in the event.
Gill also emphasised that men would participate in the initiative in a supportive role as fathers, brothers and husbands, standing alongside the women taking part in the marathon.
She said the initiative would subsequently be replicated across all districts of Punjab to promote women’s empowerment and provide a platform for women to come together.
The Commission chairperson appealed to people from all sections of society to participate in and support the event, describing it as a major initiative focused on women’s empowerment.
