Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is unlikely to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the upcoming Big Bash League after recently recovering from a Grade-2 side strain, according to a report.
Nahid, who missed Bangladesh’s Test series against Australia because of the injury, has reportedly attracted interest from several BBL franchises ahead of the upcoming season, scheduled to run from December 12 to January 26.
However, his availability for the T20 league is uncertain, with the BCB prioritising his fitness and workload amid a busy international calendar.
“We are also seeing on different platforms that some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana, but we have not received any official letter for an NOC from him. If he submits it, the board will decide whether he will get the NOC, but chances are very slim for him to get the NOC considering the fact that we have international commitments,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The official added that Nahid had only recently recovered from the injury and that his fitness and workload would remain major considerations for the board.
The 23-year-old pacer returned to bowling this week but will miss the Asian Games later this month after being left out of Bangladesh’s squad for the Aichi-Nagoya Games. The BCB is hopeful that he will be fit and available for the away series against Afghanistan in the UAE next month.
Bangladesh face a packed schedule in the coming months. They are set to host the West Indies for two World Test Championship matches in October and November before travelling to South Africa for an all-format series spanning November and December.
Nahid is expected to remain an important part of Bangladesh’s plans during the international season.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh are still hopeful of touring India for a series that was originally scheduled for September but remains uncertain amid strained relations between the two cricket boards.
BCB President Tamim Iqbal said both boards remain committed to finding a window for the series and suggested that discussions are continuing.
“That it (the series against India) won’t happen hasn’t been decided yet,” Tamim told YouTube channel ‘Not Out Noman’, adding that both the BCCI and BCB have “very positive” intentions and are exploring possible dates for the series.
