New Delhi, October 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Congress leader Udit Raj on Tuesday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of making contradictory claims about changes to Form 6, used for enrolling new voters, and urged the Supreme Court to take strict action against the poll panel.

Raj said the court’s handling of the matter would test its credibility, impartiality and commitment to accountability. He alleged that the ECI had earlier claimed that changes to Form 6 had the Supreme Court’s concurrence, a position the court subsequently denied. However, in an affidavit filed on Monday, the Commission reportedly stated that no changes had been made to the form.

“These two statements are contradictory,” Raj said, arguing that the claims already before the court were sufficient to examine the issue.

The Congress leader demanded the immediate suspension of all three Election Commissioners, contending that even a unanimous decision by the Commission could not justify an action allegedly contrary to the law. He maintained that Parliament had the authority to amend Form 6 and accused the ECI of misleading the public.

Raj also said the Supreme Court’s response would be closely watched, describing the Commission as being in a difficult position. His remarks were allegations against the poll panel and did not constitute a judicial finding on the dispute.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a batch of petitions challenging the functioning of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe against him and questioning the legality of the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, is set to hear the matter. The court had previously issued notice to the ECI on the petitions.

The proceedings also include challenges by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders concerning issues linked to the electoral roll revision exercise.

The hearing comes amid an ongoing political dispute over the SIR process and questions raised by Opposition parties about the Election Commission’s functioning.
