The Aam Aadmi Party received a boost in Jalandhar on Wednesday as prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader Rantej Singh Powar joined the party along with his supporters.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann formally welcomed Powar into the AAP fold and inducted him into the party by presenting him with a Siropa.
Powar comes from a traditional Akali family and is the great-grandson of Giani Shankar Singh Ji and grandson of Sardar Bir Singh Ji.
Welcoming Powar, Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party remains committed to Punjab’s development, corruption-free governance and serving the people.
“People with a positive vision for Punjab are always welcome in AAP,” the Chief Minister said.
Mann said people and leaders from different backgrounds were joining the party after being impressed by what he described as the people-centric policies and governance of the AAP government.
He said the entry of a leader like Powar would further strengthen the party organisation in Jalandhar and adjoining areas. Mann added that the party would continue working collectively towards making Punjab a ‘Rangla Punjab’ again.
After joining the AAP, Powar thanked Chief Minister Mann and said he was impressed by the Punjab government’s people-oriented policies and development initiatives.
He assured the party leadership that he would work with full dedication and honesty to strengthen the organisation and serve the people.
