The prosecution continued examining witnesses in the Zubeen Garg death case on Wednesday, with Singapore-based Assamese Abhimanyu Talukdar appearing before the fast-track court in Assam in connection with the events surrounding the singer’s final hours in Singapore.
Talukdar is among several overseas-based Assamese witnesses being examined by the court in connection with the yacht outing attended by Garg on September 19, 2025, the day he died in Singapore.
Garg, 52, died following an incident during a yacht trip in waters off Lazarus Island. He had travelled to Singapore for the North East India Festival and was scheduled to perform at the event the following day.
The circumstances surrounding his death subsequently led to investigations and legal proceedings in Assam, where the fast-track court is examining prosecution evidence and statements from witnesses connected with the yacht party.
Earlier, Singapore-based Assamese Parikshit Sharma and Sushmita Goswami appeared before the court. Other overseas witnesses examined in the proceedings include Pratim Lahkar, Debajyoti Hazarika and Jio Langsat Narzary.
The witness examination is focused on the sequence of events surrounding the yacht outing and Garg’s death, with their statements forming part of the evidence being considered by the court.
The proceedings in Assam are continuing separately from the investigation conducted by Singapore authorities. The Singapore Police Force concluded its investigation in April 2026 and said there was no evidence of foul play. The findings submitted to the State Coroner were consistent with a ruling of accidental drowning.
Singapore State Coroner Adam Nakhoda had ruled on March 25, 2026, that Garg’s death was an accidental drowning and found no evidence that he had been forced, coerced or pushed into the water.
Meanwhile, the Assam Criminal Investigation Department constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the death. The investigation in Assam subsequently led to criminal proceedings against several accused persons, including festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sarma, among others.
With Talukdar’s appearance, the prosecution’s examination of witnesses linked to the Singapore incident continues. Further witness statements are expected as the fast-track court proceeds with the case.
