India’s Lovlina Borgohain assured herself of a second consecutive Asian Games boxing medal after defeating South Korea’s Seong Suyeon 5-0 in the women’s 75kg quarterfinal at the Nishio Gymnasium on Monday.
The 2023 Hangzhou Games silver medallist controlled the contest from the opening round, using her reach effectively and combining accurate punches with well-timed counters. She took the first round unanimously and continued to dictate the pace in the second.
Borgohain maintained the pressure in the final round, landing powerful combinations as she kept the South Korean at a distance. All five judges scored the bout 30-27 in favour of the Indian, confirming her place in the semifinals and guaranteeing at least a bronze medal.
The result gives Borgohain her second Asian Games medal after her silver-medal finish at Hangzhou in 2023. She will now look to progress further in the 75kg competition.
Borgohain’s medal was also part of a productive day for India in boxing. Narender Berwal had earlier secured a medal by reaching the semifinals of the men’s +90kg category after defeating Thailand’s Adthapong Saengtep in the quarterfinals.
Ankush Panghal also assured India of a medal in the men’s 80kg category with a 5-0 unanimous-decision win over Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov.
In the women’s 65kg category, Parveen Hooda advanced to the semifinals after defeating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0. Parveen used her reach and speed to control the distance, combining quick combinations with counter-attacks throughout the contest.
Khamidova, a 2025 World Championships silver medallist, struggled to impose herself as the Indian maintained control across all three rounds.
