The family of slain Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan has welcomed the killing of two alleged shooters in a police encounter but called for the arrest of the remaining accused, saying justice will not be complete until everyone linked to the murder is brought to book.
Balyan’s father, Satbir Singh, said the family had learnt that two accused in his son’s killing were killed in the encounter and described the development as “half justice”.
“We got the news that two criminals were killed. Half justice has been served. Whether there are two or four, all of them should be killed. Only then will full justice be served,” he said.
Balyan’s wife, Seema, said she had only recently received information about the encounter and urged police to apprehend the accused who remain absconding.
“I would like to say that I just came to know, so it’s fine that two are gone, but some accused are still absconding. So, I would like to say that they should also be caught as soon as possible,” she said.
She added that although the family might not find complete satisfaction from the encounter, ensuring that all those responsible face justice remained important.
Police said two accused shooters, identified as 24-year-old Sumit and 22-year-old Mohit, were killed in an encounter in Shamli. Both were residents of Sonipat in Haryana and were allegedly associated with the Gogi gang. Police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 each for information leading to their arrest.
According to police, Mohit had around 14 cases registered against him in Haryana, while one case was registered against Sumit. Two other accused allegedly linked to Balyan’s murder remain absconding.
Balyan was shot dead outside his gym in Shamli on August 26 after four assailants allegedly arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire. A day later, a person claiming to be associated with the Gogi gang purportedly claimed responsibility for the killing in a social media post.
Shamli SP Narendra Pratap Singh said police teams conducted extensive checking across the district from midnight until morning, when the two suspects were spotted riding a motorcycle bearing a Baghpat registration number.
According to the SP, police signalled the men to stop and called out to them. The suspects allegedly opened fire at the police vehicle and personnel before fleeing towards the Kotwali area.
Singh said the men again allegedly fired at police when teams attempted to intercept them during checking in the Kotwali area, resulting in the encounter.
