Bollywood star Akshay Kumar recently revisited a memorable childhood encounter with Amitabh Bachchan while appearing on the quiz-based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ alongside actor Saif Ali Khan and filmmaker Priyadarshan.
The conversation turned nostalgic as Akshay and Saif spoke about their experiences with Bachchan, the host of the show.
Recalling the first time he saw the veteran actor as a child, Akshay said he had visited the sets of Bachchan’s film ‘Bemisal’ with his parents. His father, he recalled, was a huge fan of the actor.
Akshay said his mother encouraged him to approach Bachchan and ask for an autograph. However, once he reached the actor, his attention was drawn more to the grapes Bachchan was eating.
He recalled that while Bachchan was signing the autograph, he quietly took a small bunch of grapes. Bachchan noticed him and called him back as he was leaving.
According to Akshay, Bachchan then offered him an even bigger bunch of grapes, turning the childhood encounter into a lasting memory.
Saif, meanwhile, shared his own experience of working with Bachchan, recalling how nervous he was when they first worked together in ‘Eklavya: The Royal Guard’.
Saif said he had long dialogues in the film and was particularly conscious of working alongside an actor he deeply respected.
“The first time I signed a film with Amitji, I was very nervous. We were shooting for Eklavya, and I had quite long dialogues in that film, so I was learning everything,” Saif recalled.
He said he wondered how Bachchan would memorise such lengthy dialogues if he were in his position.
Saif recalled that during their first scene together, Bachchan simply asked him to give the cue before delivering his own lines, which left Saif relieved that he had prepared his dialogue thoroughly.
“I was like, thank God I had prepared and remembered the entire dialogue,” he said.
Saif added that he was later inspired by Bachchan while working with him in ‘Aarakshan’ as well.
“I have always been inspired by him and have always learnt something from him. I have never seen any actor who has such control over dialogues in all languages,” Saif said.
Akshay is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Haiwaan’, while Saif is also part of the film. Priyadarshan has directed the project.
