Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has completed shooting for his much-anticipated film ‘Love & War’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
The film will now move into post-production and is among the most awaited Hindi releases of 2027. Directed by Bhansali, the project is expected to combine his trademark visual grandeur with an emotionally intense narrative.
‘Love & War’ is scheduled to hit theatres on January 21, 2027, giving it a long Republic Day weekend release window.
Officially announced in January 2024, the film marks Vicky Kaushal’s first collaboration with Bhansali. It also reunites the filmmaker with Ranbir Kapoor after their 2007 film ‘Saawariya’ and with Alia Bhatt following ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.
The project has generated considerable interest because of its high-profile cast and reported large-scale production. While the makers have kept the plot details under wraps, the film is reportedly set against a war backdrop.
Its release schedule has also sparked discussion in the industry over possible clashes with other major-budget films and the resulting box-office competition.
Bhansali’s last theatrical directorial was ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, which starred Alia Bhatt in the lead role. He subsequently made his OTT debut with the period drama series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, featuring an ensemble cast including Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sonakshi Sinha.
Set against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s, ‘Heeramandi’ explored the lives of courtesans and their patrons while portraying the cultural world of Lahore’s famed Heeramandi district.
With filming of ‘Love & War’ now complete, attention will turn to its post-production and the build-up to its January 2027 theatrical release.
