We could not give the mother of the world the respect she deserves. We have forgotten who created the world. Salute to all the women around the world, due to whom society is moving forward. We have many duties towards women.
But we have limited women’s equality to celebrating daughters’ Lohri. These words were expressed by Mr. Sukhi Bath, founder of Punjab Bhawan Surrey Canada, who arrived as the chief guest while participating in a discussion event on journalist Hardeep Kaur’s first story collection ‘Shamshan Ghat Sau Gaya’ at Punjab Kala Bhawan Chandigarh under the banner of Disha Women’s Fellfare Trust (Regd.), Punjab. The event was inaugurated by Surjit Singh Dhir with the opening words.
This first story collection of Hardeep Kaur was released by Disha Trust on October 25, 2024 at the Press Club Chandigarh by Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. While Disha Trust held a discussion on the book to make girls in Punjab aware.
Principal Bahadur Singh Gosal, eminent story writer Deepti Babuta, senior journalist and analyst Jagtar Bhullar, eminent litterateur Balkar Sidhu attended the program as special guests. The program, organized by children’s writer Baljinder Kaur Shergill and Disha Trust, was staged by Advocate Rupinderpal Kaur.
Speaking as the main speaker on the occasion, eminent storyteller Jasvir Rana said that Hardeep’s stories create a tragic narrative of Punjab seen from the rooftops of Punjab, where the crematorium is visible.
These stories expose the double faces hidden under the guise of relationships. Senior journalist Jagtar Bhullar said that the society has high hopes from the work that Hardeep’s pen is doing to improve the direction and condition of women.
Social worker Jagjit Kaur Kahlon, who was present at the program, said that Hardeep’s stories provide the right direction to the girls of Punjab who were affected by Chakachund’s life. Storyteller Govardhan Gabbi said that while Hardeep’s stories portray an ordinary woman well, she also has a wealth of topics to talk about.
At the end of the program, folk singer R. Deep Raman presented a vote of thanks by singing a song about the sisters. On this occasion, among others, senior journalists Jai Singh Chhibber, Bhupinder Singh, General Secretary of Punjabi Writers’ Association, writer Hardev Singh Bhullar, Mr. Bajwa from Africa, writer Rajinder Dhiman, Kiranjit Kaur from Guru Nanak Sewa Dal,
General Secretary Kuldeep Kaur from Disha Trust, Sukhwinder Kaur, Uma Rawat, Manpreet Kaur, Simranjit Singh Mann, Baljit Kaur, Sonu Jansla, Manpreet Kaur, Rashwinder Singh, Jagtar Singh Jog, Gurpreet Singh Khokhar, Surjit Singh (Editor of Sur Saanjh), through Piara Singh, Ajaib Singh Aujla, Amarjit Singh (Daily Spokesman), Bhupinder Singh Bhagomajra, Sikander Singh and a large number of literature lovers were present.
