The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday accused the BJP of inducting leaders facing serious allegations, including rape, corruption and incidents involving firing at Punjab Police, claiming that the party lacked its own leadership and political base in the state.
AAP Punjab president Aman Arora said the BJP was welcoming leaders who had been suspended, removed or distanced by other political parties over their conduct. He alleged that the BJP had no leadership, agenda or organisational base in Punjab.
“The BJP has neither leadership, nor any agenda, nor a political base in Punjab, which is why it is resorting to inducting such individuals,” Arora said.
He described the BJP’s ambition of forming a government in Punjab with the support of such leaders as a “Mungeri Lal Ka Haseen Sapna”, adding that people understood the party’s intentions.
AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu also criticised the inductions, alleging that the BJP was celebrating the entry of three MLAs whom AAP had already distanced itself from.
“One of them faces a rape case, while another showed no sensitivity even when innocent children lost their lives. These were precisely the reasons why the party had taken action against them and distanced itself from them,” Pannu said.
He added that the departure of two or three individuals would not affect AAP, asserting that the party stood by its principles and commitment to Punjab.
In its statement, AAP said it had consistently taken action against members who acted against Punjab’s interests or violated party principles. It contrasted this with the BJP’s approach, accusing it of collecting leaders rejected, suspended or removed by other parties.
The party also described the BJP as a “kabaad di dukaan”, alleging that it was welcoming politically discarded individuals without considering their conduct or past actions.
