The Punjab Police have dismantled an alleged cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of 10 foreign-made sophisticated .30-bore pistols along with magazines in Amritsar. The operation was conducted by Counter Intelligence (CI), Amritsar, as part of the state police’s drive to curb the influx of illegal weapons and strengthen security in Punjab, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Daljit Singh and Gurjant Singh, both residents of village Singhoki in Amritsar district, and Arshdeep Singh, a resident of village Nisoke in the district. Police teams also impounded a motorcycle allegedly used to transport the illegal weapons.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations had revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who used encrypted communication platforms to evade police surveillance and facilitate illegal arms consignments. The weapons were allegedly intended for supply to criminal elements through an organised distribution network, he added.
Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said CI Amritsar teams had received specific intelligence that Daljit Singh and Arshdeep Singh, accompanied by Gurjant Singh, had retrieved a fresh cache of firearms allegedly dropped by a drone in the Ramdas sector. The trio was reportedly travelling on a black motorcycle towards the Verka Bypass in Amritsar to deliver the weapons to another party.
Acting on the intelligence, CI Amritsar teams conducted a raid and intercepted the three accused near the Fatehgarh Shukarchak under-bridge on the Verka Bypass. Police recovered 10 foreign-made .30-bore pistols and magazines from their possession, Yadav said.
The DGP said further investigation was underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the alleged smuggling network and identify other persons involved.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 70 dated October 27, 2026, under Sections 25, 25(1A), 25(1B), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act, along with Sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), at the Police Station, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
