Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty once recalled how he first learned about the relationship between his daughter, Athiya Shetty, and Indian cricketer KL Rahul.
During an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, the Hera Pheri actor spoke about the moment he praised Rahul in front of his wife, Mana Shetty.
“Mana, he is a very impressive boy,” Suniel recalled telling his wife.
Neither Mana nor Athiya responded immediately. Instead, they exchanged a knowing look, leaving Suniel curious about their reaction.
Mana later approached him and explained, “You know, they’re at least talking to each other now. There’s nothing more.”
Athiya and Rahul reportedly met through a mutual friend and began dating in 2019. Their friendship eventually blossomed into a relationship, and the couple tied the knot on January 23, 2023, at Suniel’s farmhouse in Khandala.
The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Evaarah, on March 24, 2025, marking another milestone in their relationship.
Suniel and Rahul share a close bond, with the veteran actor often expressing his affection for his son-in-law.
On August 11, Rahul shared a heartfelt birthday wish for Suniel on social media. Referring to the actor’s bond with his granddaughter, Rahul called him the “Best Ajja” to little Evaarah.
The cricketer posted a photograph on his Instagram Stories showing Suniel holding Evaarah in his arms, accompanied by the message, “Happy birthday to the best ajja,” along with hug and red-heart emojis.
On the professional front, Suniel was last seen in the comedy entertainer Welcome to the Jungle, featuring Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon and others.
He is also set to star opposite Tiger Shroff in an untitled action thriller directed by Sachin Ravi.
