The Indian Army on Sunday dismissed a video circulating on social media that purportedly showed Chinese soldiers searching Indian Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh, clarifying that the footage was actually from a counter-terrorism mock drill conducted in Bengaluru in May 2026.
In a fact-check, the Army said Pakistan-based social media accounts were sharing the video with false claims that Indian troops needed permission from Chinese forces to move through Arunachal Pradesh.
“The actual video is of a counter-terrorism mock drill conducted in Karnataka’s Bengaluru in May 2026, not Chinese soldiers checking Indian Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh,” the Army said.
It cautioned social media users against confusing a security exercise with an actual military confrontation and urged them to verify the source, location and context of footage before sharing it.
The Army described the alleged misinformation pattern as the use of an old counter-terrorism exercise, false identification of Chinese military personnel and a fabricated Arunachal Pradesh location to create a misleading narrative about border security.
In a separate fact-check, the Army also rejected claims circulated by a Pakistan-linked social media account alleging that it had launched a crackdown on the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), leaving seven young people injured and two dead on October 23.
According to the Army, the account had used an old photograph of security personnel during a student protest at Jamia Millia Islamia University in south Delhi to support the allegations.
The Army clarified that the original footage showed security personnel handling a hunger strike related to the demand for restoration of the university’s union on October 17. It said no casualties were reported during that incident.
The Army also rejected the account’s suggestion that the military had taken action against members of Generation Z, describing the claims as false.
The two fact-checks highlighted the importance of checking the original source and context of images and videos before drawing conclusions about military activity or security incidents.
