Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Delhi Police headquarters and directed security agencies to deal firmly with any elements threatening law and order ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned protest on November 1.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau chief Mahesh Dixit, and senior officials from the Union Home Ministry and Delhi Police attended the meeting.

The discussions focused on the overall law-and-order situation in the national capital and security preparedness for the coming days.

According to sources, Shah appreciated the Delhi Police for managing recent protests and marches effectively without allowing the situation to deteriorate. He stressed that no one should be permitted to disrupt law and order and directed the authorities to take firm action against those attempting to do so.

The Home Minister instructed the police to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas and ensure the safety of women, elderly people and children in public places. He also called for greater use of CCTV cameras and artificial intelligence to monitor suspicious individuals.

Special attention was directed towards all entry points into the national capital to prevent anti-social elements from entering the city.

More than 250 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including personnel from the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, CISF and Rapid Action Force (RAF), have already been deployed in Delhi. The deployment, which includes women personnel, has been extended until October 31 and may be prolonged depending on the security assessment.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have announced plans to hold a mock parliamentary session on October 30 to discuss a proposal to impeach Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This will be followed by a large march to Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

Several trade organisations in Delhi, including the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), have urged the Congress and the INDIA bloc to postpone the proposed rally.

Delhi traders have written to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, requesting that the rally be held after November 10. They have cited concerns that a large gathering during the festive season could disrupt commercial activity and cause financial losses.

Officials indicated that security agencies would continue operating according to established protocols to maintain peace and order in the national capital.
