The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government will further intensify its flagship anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’, with a high-level meeting scheduled for October 16 involving all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) across the state.
AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said the meeting would review the progress of the campaign, strengthen coordination between the police and civil administration, and formulate a decisive strategy for further action against drugs.
In a statement, Pannu said, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann recently held a meeting with all SHOs in Phillaur, and now, as part of the same initiative, a comprehensive meeting of all SSPs, DCs, DSPs and SDMs from across Punjab will be held tomorrow. While meetings of SSPs have taken place at the district level in the past, this is the first time that officials from all these ranks across every district are coming together for a joint meeting. The meeting will review the work done so far and deliberate on the future strategy and action plan.”
Pannu said the state government had been fighting the battle against drugs on a war footing for approximately the past one and a half years, adding that the campaign would now be intensified with a stronger focus on results and effective action against drug networks.
He emphasised that the meeting would focus on fixing accountability within the police and administrative machinery to strengthen enforcement against drug trafficking networks. The government would also examine shortcomings in the existing system and take steps to address them.
Pannu further stressed that negligence in anti-drug action would not be tolerated at any level. He said strict action would also be taken against the misuse of medical drugs as part of the intensified campaign.
