Leh, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate five major development projects worth Rs 3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday, focusing on air connectivity, strategic road infrastructure, renewable energy, cultural heritage conservation and water security.

Modi will address the gathering through video conferencing at around 12.30 p.m.

A key project is the new passenger terminal building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, constructed at a cost of Rs 640 crore. Spread across 23,800 square metres, the terminal is designed to handle 35 lakh passengers annually. It incorporates geothermal energy to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint, while blending modern facilities with elements of Ladakh’s cultural heritage.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, built by the Border Roads Organisation. Linking Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the remote Zanskar Valley, the road will provide an alternative route to Ladakh alongside the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways.

Traversing challenging Himalayan terrain, including the high-altitude Shinkun La Pass, the road is expected to improve logistical support and operational mobility for the Armed Forces. It will also enhance access to healthcare, education, markets and essential services for residents of Zanskar.

In the energy sector, Modi will inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV double-circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi Transmission Line. The projects are expected to improve electricity supply reliability and strengthen the region’s power infrastructure.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh. The facility aims to protect Ladakh’s prehistoric rock carvings, which depict wildlife, human figures and symbolic representations documenting the region’s ancient history.

The fifth initiative involves 40 water bodies developed across 40 villages under Project Him Sarovar. Aligned with the objectives of Mission Amrit Sarovar, the initiative aims to conserve water for use during periods of scarcity, particularly the agricultural sowing season, supporting irrigation and rural livelihoods.

The projects are expected to strengthen essential infrastructure while addressing Ladakh’s geographical, climatic and strategic requirements.
