Patna, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Advocates at the Patna High Court staged a protest against alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and condemning police action against lawyers participating in a demonstration in Delhi.

The protest was organised by the Indian Association of Lawyers (IAL), Patna High Court, at Gate No. 4 of the court premises on Wednesday. The advocates raised slogans over alleged voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and called for greater transparency and accountability from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Senior advocate Yogesh Chandra Verma condemned the police action against lawyers who were protesting peacefully in the national capital, describing it as unacceptable in a democracy. He said peaceful demonstrations were a democratic right and that detaining protesters amounted to suppressing those rights.

“The Bihar Bar Council strongly condemns this incident, and the entire legal community registers its protest against this action,” Verma said.

The advocates also questioned reports concerning the deletion of voters’ names during the SIR exercise. They cited claims that the names of more than 13 crore citizens had been removed and sought an explanation over reports that some names deleted during the revision were subsequently being restored to electoral rolls.

The protesters demanded that the Election Commission clarify the circumstances surrounding the deletions and restorations. They also called on all three election commissioners, including Gyanesh Kumar, to address the concerns at a press conference and respond to questions arising from a news report published in September.

The advocates said voters deserved clarity on the criteria used to remove names, the process for restoring them and the accountability of officials responsible for decisions taken during the revision exercise.

Senior advocates Ramjeevan Babu and Uday Pratap Singh, along with Verma and other members of the legal fraternity, participated in the demonstration.

Reiterating their demand for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation, the protesters said transparency in electoral roll management was essential to maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
