Superstar Rajinikanth has expressed shock and grief over the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, saying he finds it difficult to believe that his “dear friend” is no longer alive.
Rajinikanth paid tribute to the actor in a post on X, extending his condolences to Patekar’s family and loved ones and praying for his soul to rest in peace.
“I can’t believe my dear friend Nanaji is no longer with us. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” Rajinikanth wrote.
The two actors had worked together in the 2018 action drama Kaala, directed and co-written by Pa. Ranjith. Rajinikanth played the titular character Karikalan “Kaala”, while Nana Patekar portrayed Haridev, a ruthless minister seeking to seize land in Mumbai’s Dharavi and evict its residents.
Patekar died in Goa on Thursday at the age of 75. According to an official confirmation from Manipal Hospital, Goa, the actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula and was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
One of Indian cinema’s acclaimed performers, Patekar built a celebrated career across Hindi and Marathi films. He made his Hindi film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to earn recognition for his intense and powerful performances.
His notable films included Salaam Bombay!, Parinda, Angaar, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan and Raajneeti.
Patekar was last seen in Subedaar, in which he played a special role as Lance Naik Nana Waghmare. Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film stars Anil Kapoor in the titular role, alongside Radhika Madan, Khushbu Sundar, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Mona Singh and Faisal Malik.
