Punjabi actors Gippy Grewal and Binnu Dhillon have mourned the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, remembering his powerful screen presence and enduring contribution to Indian cinema.
Gippy Grewal expressed his grief on Instagram, describing Patekar as an “extraordinary performer” whose work, voice and presence had left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema.
“Heartbreaking to hear about the loss of such a remarkable artist. Nana Patekar ji has always been an extraordinary performer whose work, voice and presence have left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema. My deepest condolences,” Grewal wrote while sharing a photograph featuring the late actor.
Binnu Dhillon also paid tribute to Patekar, saying his performances had earned him a lasting place in the hearts of audiences.
“Some artists don’t just play roles on the screen; they create a place in hearts forever with their art. The departure of Nana Patekar ji is an irreplaceable loss for Indian cinema. His powerful acting, simplicity, and memorable character will always live in our hearts,” Dhillon said.
Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday, October 8, in Goa. According to the source material, he was found unresponsive at his Dona Paula residence and was taken to Manipal Hospital, where efforts were made to revive him. He was subsequently pronounced dead.
His death triggered an outpouring of grief from across the film industry, with several actors and filmmakers remembering his contribution to Indian cinema.
Patekar was known for acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Angaar, Krantiveer, Khamoshi: The Musical, Shakti: The Power, Ab Tak Chhappan and Welcome.
Beyond acting, he also worked as a director and storyteller. He made his directorial debut in 1991 with Prahaar: The Final Attack, a military drama centred on a highly disciplined Indian Army commando.
His contribution to cinema and the arts was recognised with the Padma Shri in 2013.
