Actress Tanushree Dutta on Thursday reacted to the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, offering condolences to his family while saying she was unsure how she should respond to the news.
In a video shared on social media, Dutta said she was travelling to Lucknow for a work commitment and wanted to remain focused on the event. Referring to the media attention surrounding Patekar’s death, she used the phrase “Evil Dead” while describing the situation.
“I have heard the news. Today is my work day. I am going to Lucknow for an event, and I want to focus on that,” Dutta said.
She added that she had planned to spend the day on promotional activities and social media content but was concerned that the media would instead focus on her reaction to Patekar’s death.
“I will give my reaction once I figure out what kind of reaction I should have. So, definitely, condolences to the family,” she said.
Dutta and Patekar were at the centre of controversy during India’s #MeToo movement in 2018. Dutta had accused Patekar of allegedly misbehaving with her during the shooting of the film Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss. She subsequently filed a police complaint. Patekar denied the allegations and described them as false.
Patekar died on October 8 at the age of 75. According to the source material, he was brought to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, Goa, at around 4:20 a.m. after suffering a severe cardiac arrest.
Doctors reportedly attempted to revive him through CPR for around 45 minutes to an hour but were unsuccessful. He was declared dead at approximately 5:20 a.m.
Patekar’s death has prompted tributes from colleagues and members of the film industry, who have remembered his contribution to Indian cinema.
