A man in Telangana wheeled his ailing mother for two kilometres to the residence of a local MLA to protest alleged negligence at a government hospital, after she was reportedly left waiting for hours without treatment.
The incident took place on Tuesday night in Mancherial district, where Raj Kumar took his 55-year-old mother, Bukiya Bujji, who was suffering from a kidney-related ailment, to the district government hospital.
The woman, a resident of Pulimadugu village in Mandamarri mandal, was allegedly made to wait in a wheelchair for nearly five hours, despite repeated requests by her son for a hospital bed and medical attention.
Raj Kumar alleged that hospital staff did not respond to his pleas and also refused his request to refer his mother to a hospital in Karimnagar. Instead, he was reportedly advised to take her to a private hospital.
With no treatment forthcoming, Raj Kumar decided to take his mother to the residence of Mancherial MLA K. Premsagar Rao in a wheelchair, hoping to draw attention to their situation.
After learning about the incident, the district hospital’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) rushed to the MLA’s residence and assured the family that the woman would receive proper medical care.
Following the assurance, Bukiya Bujji was taken back to the government hospital, where authorities arranged a bed and began her treatment.
The hospital authorities also assured the family that an inquiry would be conducted into the alleged negligence and the delay in providing medical attention.
