Punjab Police Arrests Over 81,000 Drug Smugglers in 19 Months of ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’

Punjab Police has registered 63,616 FIRs and arrested 81,107 alleged drug smugglers during the first 19 months of the state’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, launched on March 1, 2025, on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The campaign has resulted in the seizure of 4,161 kg of heroin, along with substantial quantities of other narcotics and drug money, according to the police.

Under the directions of Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, police teams have been conducting daily operations across all 28 police districts of the state.

Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Praveen Kumar Sinha said the seizures during the campaign also included 10 quintals of opium, 476 quintals of poppy husk, 130 kg of charas, 1,747 kg of ganja, 77 kg of ICE, 65.75 lakh intoxicant pills and tablets, and Rs 22.2 crore in suspected drug money.

Meanwhile, the police continued their ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangsters and wanted criminals. On Day 254 of the drive, police teams conducted 543 raids and arrested 248 individuals, recovering 13 weapons. Preventive action was also taken against 163 people, while eight proclaimed offenders were arrested.

The police have urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. The helpline allows people to provide information anonymously.
