Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Wednesday, reviewing bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy and critical technologies, while also discussing regional and international developments.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and agreed to maintain close engagement to deepen cooperation for the benefit of the people of both countries.
“Had a productive conversation with President Trump. We reviewed our bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas. We agreed to maintain close engagement to take our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership forward,” Modi said in a post on X after the call.
“We also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including ongoing efforts to advance global peace and security,” he added.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi and Trump also discussed regional and international developments and ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.
The conversation comes as India and the US continue to expand cooperation across strategic sectors. During their meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian in June, Modi and Trump reviewed progress in defence, energy, trade and technology cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The two countries have also been working to deepen cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, energy security, defence and resilient supply chains. Earlier bilateral understandings have covered areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, biotechnology, space and energy.
In June, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor had highlighted the breadth of the bilateral relationship in separate interviews, pointing to cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and the Indo-Pacific.
Rubio had said the US administration was working towards a visit by Trump to India in the early part of next year, while Gor described the relationship between the two leaders as an important anchor of India-US ties.
The latest conversation further underlined the two sides’ stated intent to maintain high-level engagement and advance cooperation across multiple areas.
