Lovely Professional University (LPU) has risen to fourth place among Indian universities and entered the 501–550 global rank band in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, improving from its 5th position in India and 501–600 global band in the 2026 edition.
The 2027 rankings cover 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories, making this the most extensive edition of the assessment to date. India is the most represented country in Asia for the second consecutive year, with 143 institutions included, 15 more than in the previous edition.
THE assesses research-intensive universities on parameters including teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement.
According to LPU, its performance was particularly notable in research, with the university ranked first among private universities in India for Research Environment, fourth nationally and 161st globally for Research Quality. The university also reported continued progress in International Outlook.
LPU is placed in a higher global ranking band than several established institutions, including Banaras Hindu University, IIT Indore, IIT Patna, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Panjab University and the University of Delhi, according to the latest rankings.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Rajya Sabha MP and LPU Founder Chancellor, said the recognition reinforced the university’s commitment to evolving with the changing needs of students and the global education landscape. He noted that LPU’s 25-year journey had focused on bringing academics, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry exposure and sports together within its educational ecosystem.
The university’s EduRevolution philosophy emphasises practical learning, emerging technologies and real-world experiences, while its Earn While You Learn initiative aims to help students gain professional exposure alongside their studies.
LPU also highlighted its sporting achievements, stating that 24 of its students represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics, while 58 represented the country across 15 sporting disciplines at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The university further reported that its student-athletes had secured nine medals at the ongoing Games, across disciplines including shooting, weightlifting and rowing.
The latest THE ranking adds to LPU’s reported progress in research, academics, innovation and sports as it continues to expand its presence in the global higher education sector.
