Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has penned a heartfelt note celebrating Aamir Khan, highlighting what he believes makes the actor one of the most distinctive personalities in Indian cinema.
Sharing a picture with Aamir on social media, Ghai listed five milestones from the superstar’s career, including Lagaan, Dangal, Taare Zameen Par and Sitaare Zameen Par.
“WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT AAMIR KHAN?” Ghai wrote before highlighting Aamir’s work as an actor and producer.
Referring to Lagaan, the filmmaker credited the 2001 film with taking Indian commercial cinema to the Oscars and bringing international attention to Indian filmmaking. He also highlighted Dangal, in which Aamir played a father from India, noting its success in India and China.
Ghai praised Taare Zameen Par, which Aamir produced and starred in, for addressing dyslexia and contributing to greater public awareness about the condition.
He also mentioned Sitaare Zameen Par, describing the film, which Aamir produced and acted in, as another memorable success built around the lives and abilities of people with disabilities.
Concluding his note, Ghai described Aamir as “the most loved and versatile actor on the big screen” and praised him as a producer, philosopher, philanthropist and a friend of the Hindi film industry.
Ghai and Aamir have not collaborated on a feature film as actor and director. The filmmaker had previously revealed that Aamir was considered for a role in his 1991 film Saudagar, but the proposed collaboration did not materialise.
Aamir turned 61 in March this year. He has also remained in the spotlight over his personal life after marrying longtime partner Gauri Spratt in a registered ceremony at his Mumbai residence on July 5.
