Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday accused Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation and lacking a positive political agenda, escalating the political confrontation between the BJP and Congress.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Chandrasekhar reiterated his earlier criticism of Gandhi, whom he had described as a “pre-eminent fraudster” in Indian politics. He also called Gandhi an “inauthentic politician” and urged people to assess his political record over the past 12 years.

Chandrasekhar alleged that Gandhi had repeatedly made claims that were subsequently proved wrong. He cited Gandhi’s criticism of electronic voting machines and allegations that democracy was being undermined. He also referred to Gandhi’s 2019 remarks concerning the Pulwama attack and the Balakot air strike, accusing him of questioning the circumstances surrounding the attack and the air strike.

Turning to Kerala politics, Chandrasekhar accused the Congress and the CPI(M) of maintaining an understanding despite their public differences. He also alleged that the Congress-led government was reluctant to act against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over alleged corruption, including a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On the Sabarimala temple issue, Chandrasekhar questioned the progress of the case involving alleged gold theft, recalling Gandhi’s earlier assurance that the Congress would stand with devotees and raise the issue. He also criticised Gandhi’s remarks on patriarchy, questioning the Congress’ position in light of its alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League in Kerala.

Chandrasekhar began the press conference by expressing solidarity with Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian Flydubai pilot who was seriously injured in an alleged attack by his co-pilot aboard a flight carrying 174 passengers to Tel Aviv. The aircraft was diverted safely to Saudi Arabia.

“Every Indian today is praying for his safe recovery,” Chandrasekhar said, describing the captain’s courage as a matter of national pride.

The remarks came amid an intensifying political exchange among the BJP, Congress and CPI(M) in Kerala, with the parties trading allegations over electoral processes, corruption and political violence.
