A Jammu and Kashmir Police team raided a jewellery shop in Poonch district and recovered ammunition and material believed to be of Pakistani origin, officials said on Saturday.
The raid was conducted at around 8 p.m. on Friday at a jewellery shop in Main Market Poonch by a team from Poonch Police Station, along with personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Naib Tehsildar, who acted as the executive magistrate.
The shop belongs to Davinder Singh, son of Narinder Singh and a resident of Khorinar Mohalla in Poonch.
“During search, the team claimed to have recovered AK-47 rounds, Pakistani currency of 105 rupees, Pakistani posters and Pakistani flags. The raid concluded at 10 p.m.,” officials said.
The raid comes amid intensified security operations in Poonch against cross-border terrorism and its financial and logistical support networks.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat recently conducted a security review in Poonch to assess ongoing counter-terror operations and operational preparedness in the Pir Panjal belt.
Security forces have also stepped up operations in the district following recent militant activity. The Indian Army recently killed two terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch during an infiltration attempt.
In another operation, security forces recovered a terrorist hideout in Hari Marote village of the Surankot sector, along with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and communication sets.
Officials said Poonch has witnessed heightened security threats and renewed militant activity over the past one-and-a-half to two years, leading to intensified joint operations by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have also attached immovable properties belonging to Pakistan-based terror handlers and proclaimed offenders under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Enemy and Immovable Property Act.
Properties linked to cross-border handlers, including Rafiq Nai, identified as a launch commander of the Tahreek-ul-Mujahideen/Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force, and Abdul Aziz in Mendhar tehsil, have been attached as part of efforts to disrupt the financial and logistical support networks of militant groups.
