In its third major strike against cross-border drug smuggling within four days, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has arrested three alleged operatives and seized 17 kg of heroin, taking the total recovery in the recent crackdown to 54 kg, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday.

The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state, being pursued on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The accused have been identified as Prince, Malkit Singh and Rajinder Singh, all residents of Kot Mit Singh, Khalsa Nagar plot in Amritsar. Police also impounded a silver Maruti Swift car bearing registration number HR30-N-2780, allegedly used to transport the contraband.

With the latest seizure, CI Amritsar has recovered 54 kg of heroin in four days. Earlier, the agency had seized consignments of 27 kg and 10 kg of heroin on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were allegedly operating in coordination with cross-border smugglers and receiving heroin consignments for further supply.

Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said CI Amritsar teams received specific intelligence that three operatives of a cross-border smuggling module had received a drone-dropped consignment and were expected to carry out a major drug deal beneath the flyover on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran road.

Acting on the information, police teams established a checkpoint and intercepted their Swift car near a park close to the flyover. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 17 kg of heroin, he said.

DGP Yadav said further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages of the case, identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider cross-border narcotics smuggling network.

A case, FIR No. 60 dated September 19, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
