A Chartered Accountant was allegedly kidnapped in broad daylight from Jaipur’s Central Park on Thursday morning, with the suspects taking control of his Mercedes before the vehicle crashed into a motorcycle on Delhi Road in the Amer area and overturned into a drain.
The two accused allegedly fled the scene after the crash, leaving behind a fake pistol and a knife inside the abandoned vehicle.
The victim, identified as Rajiv Gupta, told police that he regularly visits Central Park for a morning walk and had exited through Gate No. 4 at around 7.30 a.m. on Thursday to return home.
According to his statement, Gupta had just reached his Mercedes in the parking area and opened the door when one of the accused, allegedly carrying a pistol, entered the back seat. The second suspect allegedly pushed Gupta out of the driver’s seat, brandished a knife and took control of the car.
The accused then allegedly drove towards Amer at high speed, while threatening Gupta and warning him to remain silent or face death. Gupta said the suspect in the back seat kept the pistol pointed at him. He described both men as being between 25 and 30 years old.
As the vehicle approached Amer, Gupta allegedly began shouting for help through the car window. The Mercedes subsequently collided with a motorcycle on Delhi Road, lost control, overturned and plunged into a drain.
The suspects allegedly escaped immediately after the accident.
Amer SHO Rajendra Godara and his team reached the spot after receiving information about the crash. Gupta then informed the police that he had been abducted.
Police launched a search operation and imposed a blockade in the surrounding areas. During a search of the abandoned Mercedes, officers recovered a fake pistol and a knife. The vehicle was impounded and taken to the police station.
Gupta was later informed that the alleged kidnapping fell under the jurisdiction of Ashok Nagar Police Station, following which he lodged a complaint there.
Ashok Nagar and Amer police teams are jointly investigating the case. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from Central Park, the surrounding areas and the suspected escape route to determine where the accused came from and how they fled.
Police are also working on identifying the suspects based on Gupta’s description and other available evidence. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The alleged kidnapping in broad daylight in the Central Park area has raised concern in Jaipur, with investigators now working to establish the complete sequence of events.
