Mohali Kings captain Ramandeep Singh led from the front with a blistering unbeaten 71 off 36 balls as his side chased down Bathinda Royals’ 184/6 with five wickets to spare and stormed into the semifinals of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League at the I.S. Bindra Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing 185, Mohali Kings endured a disastrous start, losing two wickets for just four runs. Ramandeep then joined forces with Anmolpreet Singh, who struck 49 off 28 balls, to revive the innings with a 52-run third-wicket partnership.
Once the foundation was laid, Ramandeep took control of the chase and finished the match in emphatic fashion.
“Our dressing room is very calm; as we all know, not every match can be won. I think responsibility helps me to grow, and I try to finish the game on my own,” Ramandeep said after the match.
Despite booking their place in the last four, the captain urged the team to remain focused with two group-stage matches still remaining.
“My message for the team is we have two matches left, and we must keep our heads down and keep on working,” he said.
Earlier, Bathinda Royals recovered strongly after slipping to 17/2. Harnoor Singh scored 43 off 36 balls and Gourav Choudhary made 35 off 22 as the pair added 74 runs for the third wicket.
Ridham Satyawan then contributed 31 off 19 balls, while Shahbaz Sandhu provided the late impetus with an unbeaten 38 off 23, taking Bathinda Royals to 184/6 in their 20 overs.
Mohali Kings coach Harvinder Singh was pleased with the way the team’s tactical plans and combinations came together.
“Our team combination is something we are working on, and players have performed the way we were thinking,” he said.
Harvinder added that senior players had been advised from the outset to take responsibility and remain patient even when wickets fell early.
As the tournament enters its decisive phase, left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Harpreet Brar stressed the importance of mental strength and self-belief, particularly among the younger players.
“To youngsters, I say that trust your strength. I say control the controllables. In T20 cricket, it is all about momentum. These are some mental skills you use. Now the games are a knockout, so we want to give 110 percent in the next matches to win the trophy,” Brar said.
