Punjab Police on Wednesday conducted 549 raids at identified locations linked to associates of gangsters as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, arresting 200 individuals and recovering eight weapons.
Launched by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, the campaign aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state. Police teams from districts across the state are conducting coordinated operations with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
On the 232nd day of the campaign, preventive action was also taken against 240 individuals, while eight Proclaimed Offenders (POs) were arrested. With Wednesday’s arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has reached 69,135.
Punjab Police urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters, crime and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. The information can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 557th day. As many as 70 drug smugglers were arrested on Wednesday.
Police recovered 5 kg of ICE, 778 grams of heroin, 86 kg of poppy husk, 333 intoxicant pills and Rs. 1,900 in drug money from the arrested suspects. The total number of drug smugglers arrested during the 557-day campaign has now reached 77,579.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded eight individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Wednesday.
