Kashmiri Pandit PM Package Employees Set September 30 Deadline for Pending Transit Accommodation

Srinagar, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Kashmiri Pandit employees appointed under the Prime Minister’s package and serving in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday set September 30 as the deadline for the administration to provide them with pending transit accommodation.

The employees staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar, demanding the early allotment of transit accommodation and a permanent solution to their housing concerns.

The protesting employees said they have been waiting for government accommodation for a prolonged period and are currently dependent on rented houses. They warned that if their demands are not addressed by September 30, they will launch an indefinite protest and hunger strike.

The demand comes amid the government’s programme to construct 6,000 transit accommodation flats for Kashmiri migrant employees serving in the Valley. At a review meeting in March, the administration said 4,128 flats had been completed, while the remaining 1,872 units were to be completed in phases. The final 456 flats were targeted for completion in September.

The employees have also been highlighting security concerns. In August, the All PM Package Employees Forum sought a review of security arrangements at workplaces, residential accommodation and transit routes after a fresh threat poster containing personal details of some employees was circulated.

Unknown terror groups have periodically issued threats against Pandit employees working in the Valley. Security forces have not verified the authenticity of such threats, but authorities have continued to maintain heightened security around the employees.

PM Package employees are generally housed in secured, gated accommodations provided by the administration across different districts of the Valley.

The latest protest has brought together the employees’ demands for timely housing, a permanent accommodation solution and stronger security arrangements while they continue to serve in Kashmir.
