The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday accused the BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal of politicising a tragic death in Punjab, asserting that the bereaved family should be allowed to grieve with dignity and that those named by the family had already been arrested.
AAP Punjab General Secretary (Organisation) and Media In-charge Baltej Pannu alleged that the Opposition was engaging in what he described as “politics of vultures” by attempting to gain political mileage from tragedies and deaths.
Pannu questioned the Opposition’s response to earlier deaths, including the deaths of around 750 farmers during the farmers’ protest at Delhi borders. He also referred to a suicide case during the previous Captain Amarinder Singh government and alleged that no case was registered despite a person naming someone before his death.
He said the latest incident should not be used for political purposes, stressing that the Punjab Government stood with the bereaved family and would not allow “politics over dead bodies.”
AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda said all individuals named by the deceased person’s family had been taken into custody and arrested. He also questioned the circumstances surrounding videos released by the deceased, alleging that pressure may have been exerted to record a subsequent video naming a minister. He called for an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Dhanda further targeted the BJP, Congress and Akali Dal over their position on drugs, asserting that the Bhagwant Mann government would not spare any drug trafficker irrespective of political affiliation or backing.
He accused the previous BJP-Akali government of allowing drug trafficking to flourish through alleged political patronage and claimed that the Opposition’s “backdoor alliance” was aimed at reviving what he called Punjab’s “dark period” from 2007 to 2017.
Dhanda said the state government would continue acting against drug traffickers and that anyone found involved would face legal action regardless of political connections.
