Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Thursday expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal following devastating floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border and urged greater efforts to protect the environment, particularly in the Himalayan region.
In a video statement, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar described the situation in Nepal as a major natural disaster and urged people to pray for those affected. He noted that Nepal has long been a destination for tourists and pilgrims, including those travelling towards Mansarovar, and expressed concern over reports of deaths in the disaster.
“Let us all show our solidarity with the people of Nepal, the affected families and the Government of Nepal,” he said, while praying for strength for families who have lost their loved ones.
He also expressed hope that Nepal would recover and return to normalcy soon, stressing the need for stronger efforts to protect the environment in the Himalayan region.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has launched an initiative to identify residents of the state who may be stranded in Nepal and adjoining areas of the Tibet Autonomous Region following the flash floods and disruptions.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the state government was coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian missions to identify and assist stranded Kannadigas.
“The safety and well-being of every Kannadiga remains our foremost concern,” Shivakumar said in a post on X.
The Chief Minister’s Office has asked stranded persons, their relatives and tour operators to submit relevant details through an online form. The information will be used to coordinate rescue, evacuation and other assistance with the MEA, the Embassy of India in Nepal and the Embassy of India in Beijing.

The Karnataka government has urged people with information about stranded residents to provide the details at the earliest so that assistance can be coordinated with the concerned authorities.
