Punjab Kings have begun a five-day off-season training camp at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh as the franchise starts preparations for the 2027 Indian Premier League season.
The camp, which commenced on August 11, is focused on individual skill development, allowing players to work on specific aspects of their games away from the pressure of competitive matches.
The players participating in the camp include wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh, batting all-rounder Shashank Singh, left-arm spin all-rounder Harpreet Brar, batting all-rounder Pyla Avinash, leg-spinner Praveen Dubey and middle-order batter Nehal Wadhera.
Punjab Kings’ coaching staff is overseeing the sessions, with assistant coach Trevor Gonsalves supervising the daily training programme. The camp is also providing the support staff with an opportunity to work closely with players at different stages of their careers.
The current camp is the first of several off-season programmes planned by the franchise. Additional camps involving different groups of players are expected to be held over the coming months, combining skill refinement with fitness and conditioning work.
Punjab Kings finished fifth in the IPL 2026 points table and missed the playoffs. Led by Shreyas Iyer, the team remained unbeaten in its first seven matches, recording six wins and one no-result, before suffering six consecutive defeats. It ended the league phase with a win over Lucknow Super Giants but could not secure a playoff berth.
Other franchises have also begun preparations for the next season. Rajasthan Royals have had players train at their High-Performance Centre in Talegaon, while Sunrisers Hyderabad organised a short skill and fitness camp in Chennai. Delhi Capitals also held a camp for domestic players at the Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where trials were conducted.
Punjab Kings, two-time IPL runners-up, will be hoping the early preparation helps them build greater consistency ahead of the 2027 campaign.
