BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday warned that he would join the ongoing students’ agitation in Jharkhand and sit on a hunger strike if the state government fails to take a decision on alleged examination paper leaks and recruitment irregularities by August 13.
Dubey, a four-time Lok Sabha member from Godda, said he would seek permission from his party before joining the protest if no action was taken by the deadline, which falls while the Monsoon Session of Parliament is underway.
In a post on X, Dubey questioned when students in Jharkhand would get relief from alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The BJP MP also questioned when the Hemant Soren-led state government would respond to the grievances of protesting students.
Dubey’s warning came amid a prolonged agitation at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, where students have been protesting against alleged irregularities in various recruitment examinations.
The protesters have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, cancellation of allegedly affected examinations and systemic reforms to ensure transparency in the recruitment process.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also appealed to the Opposition on Thursday, particularly Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, to allow Parliament to function so that Union Home Minister Amit Shah could address the Houses on issues being raised by the Opposition.
Prasad also criticised Rahul Gandhi over his stand on the Jharkhand students’ agitation.
Meanwhile, several students from Jharkhand have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, with some reportedly remaining on hunger strike for nearly two weeks.
The students are seeking a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in JPSC, JSSC and other recruitment examinations, action against those found responsible and greater transparency in the recruitment process.
Following the state government’s offer to hold discussions with the protesters, the students have formally constituted a delegation for the proposed talks.
Dubey’s proposed intervention is expected to add political pressure on the Jharkhand government as the students continue their agitation.
