Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha on the occasion of Human Rights day reiterated his long-standing demand for the release of the Bandi Sikhs.
Dr. Sahney stated that many of them have completed over 30 years of imprisonment and even paroles to meet their dying parents have been repeatedly denied, despite clear precedence set by the Government of Haryana. He further informed that the pending remission plea of S. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who has completed three decades in prison and is mentally unwell, also continues to await review.
Dr. Sahney also said that Justice delayed is justice denied. The release of Bandi Sikhs must be guided by the spirit of ending their agonising long incarceration. Human rights cannot be selective—they must be universal, humane, and just.
While speaking in the parliament during the 150-year commemoration of Vande Mataram Dr. Sahney emphasised that the Sikh community has always stood at the forefront of defending India’s honour and unity.
“From the martyrs of the freedom struggle to the soldiers guarding our borders, Sikhs have lived the spirit of Vande Mataram through sacrifice and service. Our Gurus taught us to always upheld harmony, rejected hate, and protected the weak. Protecting minority rights is not merely a constitutional duty, it is the soul of India.
