New Delhi, September 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A 73-year-old man was arrested after his car allegedly struck a motorcycle and dragged it for nearly 500 metres in southwest Delhi’s R.K. Puram area, police said.

A video of the incident, which occurred late Thursday night, has surfaced showing the motorcycle trapped beneath a blue car as it continued moving along a tree-lined road. Sparks can be seen flying from underneath the vehicle, while a man riding a scooter follows the car and repeatedly asks the driver to stop.

The car eventually came to a halt, following which several people gathered around the vehicle. A woman travelling as a pillion rider on the scooter approached the car, opened its door and asked the driver to step out.

The driver, identified as 73-year-old Venu Gopal, a resident of Vasant Kunj, is seen folding his hands in an apparent gesture of apology. A man in the gathering then grabs him by the collar and attempts to pull him out of the car. The video also shows the woman slapping Gopal during the confrontation.

The motorcycle rider, identified as Tapas, is seen questioning Gopal over the incident. He tells the elderly man that he could have stopped after the collision and that he could have been killed.

According to Delhi Police, the preliminary enquiry found that Tapas was sitting on a parked vehicle by the roadside when his motorcycle was hit by Gopal’s car. The impact caused Tapas to fall from the motorcycle, while the car continued moving with the bike trapped underneath it for approximately 500 metres.

Police said Gopal was arrested and the car was impounded for further investigation. He was also medically examined after the incident, with the examination indicating that he was not under the influence of alcohol, officials said.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and the subsequent dragging of the motorcycle to establish the exact sequence of events.

The incident comes shortly after a separate case in Gurugram in which a car driver was arrested for allegedly deliberately hitting a woman biker who was part of a biker club.
