Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman is set to lead the search for Tamil Nadu’s next singing sensation with Tamil Idol, a statewide talent hunt that will invite aspiring singers to audition from across the state.
The initiative aims to discover promising voices from different parts of Tamil Nadu and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talent under the guidance of one of India’s most celebrated music composers.
Sony Vizha unveiled Tamil Idol as the first-ever Tamil edition of one of the world’s most popular singing competition formats. Rahman announced that auditions will open on August 18, inviting singers across Tamil Nadu to register through the Sony LIV app.
Those unable to attend auditions in person can also participate remotely through the app. Participants need to select the Tamil Idol Audition section, provide their personal details and complete the registration process.
Speaking about the initiative, Rahman said the search for new voices was central to the evolution of music and that the show would provide a platform for emerging talent.
“The search for new voices is at the heart of music, voices that go on to reach millions. Through this journey, we uncover new talent, fresh perspectives, and the untold stories of generations,” Rahman said.
“With Tamil Idol, for the very first time, we bring together the extraordinary voices of Tamil Nadu and give them a platform to be celebrated,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rahman recently unveiled the soundtrack for Baab, an Arabic psychological fantasy thriller directed by Nayla Al Khaja. The project marked his first collaboration on an Arabic-language film.
The original soundtrack, released through Rahman’s music label KM Musiq and distributed worldwide by Divo, features 10 compositions.
Rahman said he was drawn to Baab because of its emotional complexity and the distinctive world created by Al Khaja.
